This course is for:  any professional working with children in Lancashire who do not fall within Children Family Wellbeing Service or any of the Children’s Social Care Locality teams.

Summary: This multi-agency workshop will update partners on Lancashire Children’s Services transformation journey, including sharing the evidence that has supported our move toward a strength-based practice approach. The workshop will deepen partners’ understanding of, and confidence in, their application of thresholds in line with Lancashire’s continuum of need and share good practice examples of how support is being delivered to children and families at different levels of need within Lancashire.

Course Objectives: 

  • Understand the rationale for transforming Children’s Services in Lancashire.
  • Understand Lancashire’s threshold document ‘Working Well with Children and Families’, and the updated Continuum of Need.
  • Develop a shared understanding around how thresholds are applied in practice and what factors may influence decision making.
  • Define what information is required within a request for support to aid effective and timely decision making.
  • Recognise the core components of the Family Safeguarding Model and the functions of each service within Children’s Social Care.
  • Describe how Motivational Interviewing skills are used in practice to help facilitate change.
