Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022 – Updated statutory guidance

The Department for Education (DfE) has recently published the updated version of its statutory safeguarding guidance for schools in England, which will come into effect on Thursday 1st September 2022.

The revised guidance includes a number of changes over the 2021 version including additional information about Domestic Abuse, the importance of schools talking to parents and carers about children’s access to online sites when away from school, clarity around the role of Governors when considering filters and monitors (and regularly reviewing their effectiveness) and a new paragraph highlighting the importance of ensuring children understand that the law on child-on-child abuse is there to protect them rather than criminalise them.  A full list of the substantive changes is included in the statutory guidance at Annex F.
